Different Components of Mobile Ecosystem- Which one is yours?

Enterprise mobile apps

Over the last few years, there is drastic growth in the Smartphone usage that has reshaped the computing backdrop of mobile computing applications. Today, the thrilling business opportunities created by the mobile apps enable many businesses and entrepreneurs to develop and distribute their apps.

Enterprise Mobile Apps have become a boon for the entrepreneurs as it helps them to reach to their employees and consumers easily. The mobile ecosystem upholds the expansion of mobile applications market by offering them numerous choices for developers and users. When it comes to picking the best ecosystem for your mobile applications, you can make the right decision by gaining basic technical landscape knowledge and targeting on the most important issues.

Components of Mobile Ecosystem

There are three different components of mobile ecosystem- The Operating platforms, type of device and the distribution environment. The most popular mobile operating platforms are Google’s Android, Apple’s iOS, Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7, Research in Motion’s (RIM) Blackberry.

Apple iOS

iOS is considered as one of the renowned operating systems for mobile apps. Apple iOS is known for pleasing application store experience, a wide assortment of high-end applications and tightly controlled development environment. As Apple is responsible for controlling iOS devices manufacturing, it makes sure function and design uniformity while enabling developers to create applications that are compatible with all its devices and gadgets.

Because of Apple’s hard-hitting standards, it makes sure the development of high-quality applications and increases the cost of entry for app developers and therefore, the cost of development is higher within its ecosystem. The type of device used is Apple iPad. The applications of Apple iOS are distributed only on Apple’s App Store. Currently, there are around 500,000 applications available for iOS that are downloaded over 15 billion times. Most of these applications are paid, but the Company has made it easier for users to buy them using their iTunes accounts that can be downloaded anytime onto PCs and iOS devices.

Google Android

Google Android is one of the most used open source mobile app ecosystems that run on a number of devices manufactured by different companies. With its low-cost entry and strong brand Google, it has uptake the platform rapidly by developers over the last few years. Today, it has become a popular platform for Smartphone. However, its user interface is quite lower than Apple’s iOS that results in poorly designed apps. Talking about the Android devices, there are many companies in the race like Nokia, Samsung, Blackberry, HTC, Motorola etc. Android applications are, however, circulated through Android Market of Google and third-party vendors like GetJar, Handango, and Amazon.

RIM Blackberry

Blackberry Operating system has been used since 1990’s and RIM has been considered as the pioneer in mobile computing. Being a proprietary platform, the OS of BB supports instant messenger like BBM and Blackberry mail that can only run on RIM tablet and Smartphone. In the enterprise market, Blackberry phones and Blackberry playbook are quite popular. They support Enterprise Mobile Apps Solutions without any hassle. The apps are distributed through third party vendors like Mobihand and Blackberry App world. All Blackberry apps available in the App world need approval from the brand before downloading.

Microsoft Windows Phone 7

Microsoft Windows is the global leader in the personal computers operating system. Its Windows Phone 7 OS is designed for consumers. It is a proprietary platform that will be replaced soon with Symbian system that is used in Nokia phones as well. The User Interface of Windows Phone 7 was praised because of its amazing layout. However, it lacks in the advanced features like in Android and iOS. When it comes to distribution of Windows Mobile Apps, you can explore Windows Marketplace that gives users trial period option where a developer can provide free access to the app for a limited time period.

Understanding current ecosystem landscape is important for formulating an effective strategy for mobile app development. If you are seeking to increase ROI then you should know how to identify the ecosystem that provides best possible experience to the end users. As ecosystem diversity offers many options in application development it can also lead to some confusion that can be a debacle for your application campaign. If you are looking to go a long way in your ecosystem choice, then ensure to consider target audience, and application’s functional requirements carefully.

Use Google Now effectively to boost productivity

Google Now Tips to make optimum use

One of the ever-lasting problems with Android is that there are number of mobile manufacturers and all of them customize Android as per their wish. Everything is fine until Google releases an Android update. This is when the consumer begins to suffer, as manufacturers usually do not provide any update to older devices. Recently, Google launched Assistant; simple words, advanced version of Google Now.

There’s still a large number of user base that have no idea what is Google Assistant; thanks to their manufacturers. This post is specifically drafted for all those people and helps them get the most out of their devices. Google Now is not exactly Assistant’s alternative, but it can solve the purpose of effective productivity.

There are a number of voice and text commands but I have listed few that can be used every day to increase productivity. Besides, other commands are basically Google Search results that everyone is familiar with and thus, not listed here.

Below are some of the ways you can use Google Now to get the most out of your Android device and increase your productivity:

Getting Directions with Google Now:

If you are in middle of nowhere and feels like being lost, then instead of going to Maps and finding the route; it is better to use Google Now right from your Home Screen. You can either speak or type, “Drive Me Home” and instantly you will be directed to Google Maps and start getting directions.

Setting up Alarm:

This isn’t the most fascinating feature, but I personally loved it. The only reason is that I don’t have to navigate to the Clock app and set my alarm. I just speak by holding the Mic button of Google Now option on home screen. All you have to do is to speak or write “Wake me up (time)” and Google Now will instantly set the alarm.

Finding places:

Whether you are running low on gas or cash; just speak or type “ATM near me” or “Gas Station near me”. You will get list of places along with the distance from your place. You can improvise as per your requirement with the search query.

Opening Apps:

This feature is known by almost every Google Now user. Just press the Mic icon and speak “Open (name of App)”. This isn’t a magic and I know that, but when you have a very large number of apps, finding the only you are looking for is a bit tedious thing.

Gmail Integration

Finding a specific bill or receipt that you have received in your Gmail? No problem. Just speak or type “Show me my bills” and it will result all the emails with bills. You can also specify a sender, for instance, “Show me my bills from AT&T”.

That’s all folks! I’ll update this post as soon as I come across more useful Google Now commands. If you know any other commands that can benefit the fellow Android users, then make sure you write that down in the comments. And don’t forget to subscribe DotAndroid to receive notification of new posts.

Unbrick Qualcomm mobiles – Ultimate guide always updates

unbrick qualcomm mobile

Ultimate guide to Unbrick Qualcomm Mobiles

First of all, all the credit for this long and highly useful article goes to tirta.agung from Xda-forums

This Guide will not help LG G3 users, so please do not attempt.

It is a very long and technical post to Unbrick Qualcomm mobiles, so please follow each steps properly.

Here’s the ultimate guide to Unbrick Qualcomm Mobiles. The guide will work for most of the Qualcomm chip-sets, but better double check before going through the process.

Disclaimer: This guide is for technical persons only, if you are not aware about what bricking and Unbricking a device, please do not follow further from here. We will held no responsibility if your device is broken or damaged. Proceed at your own risk and responsibility

Analyzing the Problem

In Qualcomm NEW firmware (not the HLOS part, but NON-Hlos, SBL1, TZ, HYP, RPM, and Aboot), especially ARMv8-A, Qualcomm diminished the famous “Qualcomm HS-USB Diagnostics 9006”, and introduce two types of “Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008”. So, it is very important to check, on which 9008 mode your phone is in. To do this, follow these steps below:

Make your PC ready :

  • Turn internet connections off .
  • Remove your mobile from PC or Laptops.
  • Install the latest “.net Framework” for your Windows.
  • Uninstall all the driver related to mobile, including any Qualcomm driver. Uninstall them through Device Manager FIRST, then program manager.

Then run “CMD” or “Windows Terminal” as administrator and type:

bcdedit -set loadoptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS

bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON

Restart your PC or Laptops, and you should see this watermark at the bottom right of your desktop, just like the pic below”
unbrick qualcomm mobileDownload from here, extract to an empty folder, then open the folder according to your Windows type (x64 or x86) and double click dpinst64.exe (if you have 64-bit Windows) to install the Qualcomm driver

  • Now it is safe to connect your Qualcomm Mobile to PC or laptop (I connected it in USB2 port). BUT BEFORE YOU CONNECT YOUR Mobile, REMEMBER TO UNPLUG YOUR BATTERY FOR FIVE SECS, REPLUG IT, AND CONNECT YOUR Mobile WITHOUT PRESSING ANY OF ITS BUTTONS. Your phone should now being detected as “Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008” and the driver version (please check it through Windows’ “Device Manager”)

Analyzing the Process:

If you were just messing with system image, boot image, system’s framework or other things that does not related to Qualcomm’s stuff (modem-NON-HLOS.bin, aboot-emmc_appsboot.mbn, sbl1, hyp, tz, rpm partition, for example installing sound patch, etc, you possibly will enter the new 9008 mode, which is a combination of the old “Qualcomm HS-USB Diagnostics 9006” and “Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008”. When you first brick the phone into this mode, you would experience such symptoms below:

  1. The LED charging indicator near the phone speaker will light red.
  2. Your phone will vibrate endlessly, and this vibration will end only if you disconnect your phone from your PC or laptop and unplug the battery.

If you open Windows’ Device Manager, you’ll see “Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008” under PORTS (COM & LPT) or “QHUSB_BULK” under Other devices, and “Qualcomm MMC Storage USB Device” under Disk drives, similar to the pics below

unbrick qualcomm mobileOR

unbrick qualcomm mobileHowever, if you messed with your Mobile’s Qualcomm’s partition playing with NON-HLOS.bin, emmc_appsboot.mbn, sbl1.mbn, hyp.mbn, tz.mbn, rpm.mbn, or by other mean messing the whole Qualcomm’s eMMC partition, such as by using this zip I made while your Mobile is in Fastboot, then you will most likely go into the OLD “Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008” mode. You will find symptoms similar to below:

  1. The phone charging indicator would not light if you connect your mobile with PC or Laptop.

Device Manager only listed “Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008” under PORTS (COM & LPT) or “QHUSB_BULK” under Other devices, but no “Qualcomm MMC Storage USB Device” under Disk drives, similar to pic below:

unbrick qualcomm mobiles

So, now you need to analyse your Mobile, whether it is in the OLD ‘9008″ or NEW “9008” mode, as the procedure to revive your beloved mobile will be different.

Guide, if you are NEW “Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008” MODE

If you are that lucky person, who is stuck in the NEW “Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008” mode, to be honest, the steps to be taken are a lot easier. However, you need somebody having the same phone as yours to upload your device’s complete eMMC image for you. To get such image, you could ask your friend to do these steps (root the phone first):

  1. Format your external MicroSD card with “exfat” system file, and the size of this SD card should be morethan 16 GB , which is the size of the whole partition.
  2. Do a full factory reset, meaning wipe your cache, data, and internal storage using either CWM, TWRP, or PhillzTouch.
  3. Insert the SD card to your phone and connect your mobile with ADB, type:
adb shell
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/storage/sdcard1/backup.img bs=512 count=30535646

The size of the “backup.img” is around 16 GB, However, if you compressed it, it would be around 2 GB.

Now, if you have the backup.img in your hand, you can do these steps:

  1. Download partition tools from the net, I recommend you to use “Minitool Partition Wizard”.
  2. Download “HDD Raw Copy Tool”, it is a free tool that can copy your “backup.img” to your Mobile’s eMMC sector per sector.
  5. Open “Minitool” and you will see that your phone has 29 partitions in total, similar to the pic below (this pic was taken from Windows’ “Disk Management Tool” just to describe Qualcomm’s partitions):unbrick qualcomm mobiles
  6. Delete all 29 partitions and click apply (remember don’t remove your phone while “Minitool” is completing the process).
  7. If all process finished successfully, open “HDD Raw Copy Tool”, and you’ll see things similar to this:

Choose your “backup.img” and click “Continue >>>>>>”.
unbrick qualcomm mobilesPut a highlight on “Qualcomm MMC Storage USB Device” and click “Continue”

unbrick qualcomm mobileCheck every things and click “START”.

unbrick qualcomm mobilesHowever, if you can’t find a good fellow, who is willing to give you the “backup.img”, then I’m afraid you have to do it the hard way, which is forcing your beloved Mobile to go to the OLD “Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008” mode. You can do this using “Minitool“:

  1. Open “Minitool” again.
  2. Delete all 29 partitions.
  3. Then choose “Create Partition” on the whole “Qualcomm MMC Storage USB Device” (making it one big 16 GB partition) as “Primary Partition” with an “ext4” file system. By the way, DON’T GIVE THE PARTITION A NAME.
  4. Click APPLY.
  5. When “Minitool” completed all the process, disconnect your Mobile from PC or Laptop, UNPLUG YOUR BATTERY FOR FIVE SECS, RE-PLUG IT, AND CONNECT YOUR Mobile WITHOUT PRESSING ANY OF ITS BUTTONS.
  6. And I have to greet you, “Welcome, now you are in the OLD ‘Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008’ mode”.

Guide on how to recover “Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008” MODE

Download “QPST 2.7 build 422 (QFIL)” from HERE and extract it to an empty folder. It has to be this version of “QPST”. Install QPST by double clicking setup.exe

  1. Download attached with this post HERE, and extract it to an empty folder. You will get a folder called “8675_W00”, just open it.
  2. Download and Extract your Mobile stock ROM in the folder you made. ( Make Sure the ROM you download is flashable file and not a ZIP flash file)
  3. Now open QFIL from start menu
  4. Insert all the necessary file needed by “QFil”:

(1)The programmer will be prog_emmc_firehose_8936.mbn found inside the “8675_W00” folder;

(2)Use the rawprogram0.xml found inside the “8675_W00” folder;

(3)Use the patch0.xml found inside the “8675_W00” folder;

(4)Hit “Download” button.

unbrick qualcomm mobileIf the process you did with “QFil” finished successfully, the phone will reboot by itself.

  • After the phone rebooted, it will suffer from an endless bootloop. Don’t do anything, just disconnect it from your PC, and straight away put your phone into bootloader by pressing “volume-up” button while connecting your phone again to your PC.
  • Go to “8675_W00” folder again, and run FlashAll(AfterQFil).bat by double clicking it.
  • Your Mobile will reboot normally to stock ROM.

Save Snapchat Pictures and Videos on Android without root: How To?

Spy Like a Pro : Save Snapchat Pictures and Videos on your Android without Root

If there is any app that is widely used for chatting after Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger, then it is certainly Snapchat. The basic function of Snapchat is to provide an update in real-time to your family and friends by means of sending them a pic or a video. Till now, there was not way to save Snapchat Pics and videos without root.

There are some workarounds to get this job done, but for that, you’ll need to root your device. Not everyone wants to root their device and give up OTA updates just to save Snapchat pics and videos. Yes, you can also take a screenshot, but doing that will alert the sender and you might get into trouble.

Fortunately, there’s an app that works without root and it also does not alert the sender. To know more about it, check the tutorial given below.

How to save Snapchat pictures and videos without root on Android:

Step #1: First and foremost thing is to download an app called Casper. The app is not available on Google Play Store, for obvious reasons. To install it you’ll need to enable Unknown Resources” from Settings > Security.

Step #2: After installation is finished, open Casper app and enter your Snapchat User ID and Password to Login.

Step #3: You’ll also need to provide your Google Account ID and Password, as part of authentication. We recommend making a fake Google Account for this purpose.

Step #4: Once you are in your Snapchat account, the app is pretty decent to use. The User-interface is very friendly and won’ take more than a couple of minutes to get familiar with it.

Step #5: To download any Pic or Video, simply tap on it and you will see a Download icon at the top-right side of the app screen.

Step #6: All your downloaded pics and videos are saved in Gallery under “Saved Snaps”.

That’s it; isn’t that simple? You can use Casper as an independent Snapchat client. If you find the ads a bit intrusive, you can make a payment of $2.99 and remove them.
